Stay overnight in a rainforest in an eco-lodge right on the Pacuare River, considered one of the top five rivers in the world. You’ll have an opportunity to try your hand on the best whitewater rafting in Costa Rica. The Pacuare River has III-IV class rapids and you will be with an expert guide during your entire adventure. Not only does it provide a completely exhilarating experience, it also is a great way to experience the scenic environment in the heart of the rainforest and see beautiful waterfalls and gorgeous verdant mountains in the surroundings. You also might be able to spot some of the exotic wildlife, such as monkeys, jaguars and a variety of colorful birds. On this trip, you’ll also cross between different indigenous tribes and learn about the importance of this river in regards to the local communities.
Next, you’ll journey to the Caribbean, passing through the City of Limon province on the way. Puerto Viejo is a fisherman village on the beach with resident Jamaican descendants, well known for its multicultural heritage. Nothing beats eating the authentic Caribbean seafood cuisine in this tropical environment whilst chatting with the friendly locals.
Enjoy an array of activities in the surrounding areas, like a nature walk in Cahuita National Park and snorkeling around the biggest coral reefs in Costa Rica. You will also have a chance to take a unique Caribbean cooking class where you will learn how to prepare the typical plate of rice and beans with Caribbean chicken (after of which you’ll get to eat it!)
One of the most unique aspects of this short break is your opportunity to visit the indigenous Bribri community in the mountains of Talamanca. Here you’ll have a chance to respectfully learn about the daily life of the locals and also have an opportunity to make some chocolate with the local women. A truly once in a lifetime experience that will resonate with you long after your return home.
