At the heart of the 10-day Niger River Journey is a 5-day voyage by authentic canoe-shaped riverboat, or 'pinasse', passing by the local villages along the way. Watch Mali's incredible landscape change from desert dust to mud architecture of Djenné to the epic mosques of Timbuktu. Travelers will rest their head everywhere from simple riverside tents to a Bamako bed and breakfast, a mud hotel in Djenné, and an upscale boutique hotel in Timbuktu.
The journey begins and ends in Mali's capital city of Bamako. From there, travellers set out on a non-stop adventure that will take them inside traditional pottery workshops of Segue, through the mud city of Djenné, onto an authentic 'pinasse' riverboat on the Niger River for five full days, and into daily lives of local village people in Mali. The trip culminates with an unforgettable camel ride against the backdrop of desert sand dunes near Timbuktu.
From Timbuktu, travellers return by flight to the bustling capital city of Bamako, where the tour began. They will have a chance to catch urban markets and museums, or just marvel at the contrast between the pulsating capital and the laid-back village life on the great Niger River.
